Obama Drops The Ball On Gustav

I’ve been meaning to write this up for a couple days after I first noticed it. Now of course I hope it goes without saying Barack Obama shouldn’t be using Hurricane Gustav as a marketing or press opportunity.

But still, how events like this are dealt with in a presidential campaign still shapes the public’s perceptions. And Obama is way behind John McCain in something that should be stupid simple.

Now I am not suggesting that Obama hop on a plane to New Orleans and get photographed on a levee. But what I am suggesting is that the party that let Katrina happen and the terrible state of New Orleans three years later, shouldn’t appear to be out in front on Gustav.

I mean don’t we have somebody in the Democratic party smart enough to present Obama’s stance on New Orleans and Gustav in a dignified manner, showing both his deep concern and involvement (which I am sure are is true)? Well it would appear they don’t.

As of noon on Sunday (8/31) Obama’s official website was still promoting his convention acceptance speech, with no mention of Gustav on the front page. Then by the morning of Monday (9/1) his site looked like the below screen capture. No personal message from Obama, just a link to the Red Cross.

Now take a look at McCain’s site, which has been this way since the early afternoon on Sunday (8/31).

And we wonder why we keep losing elections. Whoever fell asleep at the wheel on this issue at the Obama campaign needs to be looking for another.

LSU vs. Ohio State: Lets Get It On

Tonight is the night we’ve been waiting for. LSU vs. Ohio State University for the college football national championship. There is much I could say, but I will just lead with an impassioned prayer by Cajun Boy:

An Impassioned And Very Shameless Plea To The Football Gods

Dear Football Gods,

Tonight, as I’m sure you’re already well aware, LSU and Ohio State will be playing for the championship of college football in the New Orleans Superdome. To the people of Louisiana and their native sons and daughters around the world, this is kind of a big deal. We could really use your help, your divine intervention, to ensure an LSU victory here. Quite frankly, I think that we deserve this. It’s the opinion of myself and many others that you’ve kind of dealt us a bad hand in recent years. We’ve faced much strife, grief, shame, public humiliation and unrelenting regret.

And no, I’m not even referring in any way to those TWO FUCKING STORMS OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS that you unleashed upon us in 2005. I’m talking about the Spears family.

Click here to read the rest, it only gets funnier.

LSU Trumps Alabama In The Final Minutes

I don’t know how many more of these games I can handle without going to the doctor and asking for some heart medication.

The Tigers did it again Saturday night, scoring two touchdowns in the final three minutes to stay in the thick of the national championship race with a heart-stopping 41-34 win over No. 17 Alabama.

Flynn tossed a pass over the middle to Early Doucet, who shook away from one defender, faked out another and went all the way to the end zone for the tying score with 2:49 remaining.

Alabama got it back, but safety Chad Jones burst up the middle to sack John Parker Wilson and knock the ball away. It rolled along the turf until LSU’s Curtis Taylor fell on it at the Tide 4.

Two plays later, Jacob Hester dove over from the 1 with 1:26 left and LSU was still in the title race.

And this isn’t to mention fourteen penalties for 130 yards (many at really bad times), coupled with three interceptions and a blocked field goal. Alabama has three penalties. Couple this with a lost by Boston College to Florida State and LSU is back to No. 2 in the BCS standings.

A Little Onion “Humor”

Even though my posts here are not always the most upbeat, I actually have a great sense of humor. I love to laugh, which is why I check out the Onion on a regular basis. I could resist posting this story.

BATON ROUGE, LA—In a breakthrough study that contradicts decades of understanding about the nature of alligator–drunkard relations, Louisiana State University researchers have concluded that people’s drunkenness does not impair the ancient reptiles’ ability to inflict enormous physical harm.Alligators exhibit the potential to inflict serious harm, regardless of the blood-alcohol levels of their victims.

"Our data strongly indicates that human intoxication does not transform an alligator into a docile creature that enjoys wrestling," said professor Ryder McCrory, chair of the Wildlife Taunting Department of LSU’s prestigious Center For Bullying And Hazing Studies. "Despite its slow-witted demeanor and tendency to bask motionlessly in the hot sun, it’s a mistake to believe that an alligator will passively tolerate a half nelson, no matter how much Southern Comfort is fueling it."

The humor doesn’t stop there.

Instead of baiting an alligator, seek another form of drunken recreation, such as attending a strip club, burning a pile of tires, or painting one’s buttocks with a funny face and videotaping it.

Sick or infant deer are considered a far safer match for most inebriated humans; kicking a raccoon or squirrel already dying by the side of the road is also recommended.

Sometimes it is good to laugh and not think about all the problems in this world.

Lets Get It On

In what may be the biggest game of the SEC this year #6 LSU (2-0) visits #3 Auburn (2-0) to most likely determine, even this early in the season, who will win the Southeastern Conference Western Division title. ESPN.com Insider has a great breakdown of the game here if you’re a fan or plan on watching the game. This should be a great game. Geaux Tigers!

The Lady Tigers Advance

How some equal time for the Lady Tigers, who edged Stanford 62-59 on Monday to advance to the Final Four for the third straight season. Lets hope both the men and women can both advance to the title game.

A Date in the Final Four

Glen “Big Baby” Davis cuts down the net after LSU (27-8) beat the Texas Longhorns 70-60 in overtime to win the Atlanta Regional and earn a meeting opposite UCLA next Saturday in the Final Four in Indianapolis. This is LSU’s first time back to the Final Four since 1986. What great news for LSU, New Orleans, and the state of Louisisana.
